A 5-S program is an essential starting point for organizations wishing to begin Lean implementation programs.  The 5-S’s indicate; Sort, Set In Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain activities.  Typically, 5-S programs result in a more pleasant workplace, better employee job satisfaction, and result in a process that “makes sense” for employees.  In addition, the organization can realize other benefits including; shorter cycle times, higher quality products, lower costs, and improved customer satisfaction.  5S programs are an essential starting point for more the implementation of more advanced Lean Manufacturing Techniques.
